Abdul Makki, JuD leader to fall under UN scanner
New Delhi, Aug 12: The United States of America is all set to target Abdul Rehman Makki, the brother in law of Lashkar-e-Tayiba chief, Hafiz Saeed. Makki one of the many guiding lights of the Lashkar carries a 2 million dollar bounty on his head.
Hafiz Saeed warns Pak govt over Kashmir issue
The US is expected to move the UN Sanctions Committee to proscribe Makki.
This is a very important move as Makki not only plays the role of a godfather to several young recruits, but also is the primary handlers of the Lashkar's finances.
What sanctions on Makki would mean?
As per the investigations that have been conducted in the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks, it was found that Makki had played a vital role in the finances department. He is the over all in-charge of the financial unit of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa.
The JuD has been accused by several countries of being the financial arm of the Lashkar. The JuD relies heavily on charities from across the world which it diverts into its military wing-Lashkar-e-Tayiba.
The ongoing investigations into the Udhampur attack too sprung up the name of Makki. He is believed to be the man who has been nurturing Talha Saeed (Hafiz Saeed's son). Talha is the one who is said to have given his blessings for the Udhampur attack.
Proximity with the Pakistan government:
Like Hafiz Saeed, Makki too enjoy a very good rapport with the Pakistan government. He has openly made speeches against India and called for war. A week before the 2010, German Bakery blasts, he had made it clear in one speech that Pune was their next target.
Makki along with Saeed work with the Difa-e-Pakistan Council, a body which speaks out against the drone strikes by the Americans. The role of Makki has largely been to agitate the people of Pakistan against the US.
