Denied permission to abort by SC, 10-year-old rape victim delivers baby
The 10-year-old rape victim, who was not allowed to have abortion by Supreme Court, delivered a baby girl through C-section at one of the government hospitals in Chandigarh on Thursday. The girl's condition is stable.
According to doctors, the newborn is underweight, at 2.02 kg, but her condition is stable.
The victim was subsequently admitted to GMCH-32 where she was under regular watch of a team of doctors in Chandigarh. The victim was operated upon on Thursday morning and delivered the baby through C-section.
''As far as the girl is concerned, she is stable and will be kept in a separate room," Dr Dasari Harish, chairperson of the committee which had been constituted for treatment of the rape victim, said.
Her parents had approached the Chandigarh district court for permission to terminate the pregnancy. On July 18, the court dismissed the plea, citing the 20-week ceiling. The girl was allegedly raped over seven months. Her parents got to know of it when they took her to a doctor after she complained of a stomach pain.
