AAP workers beaten up by Congress members in Amethi
Amethi, Jan 7: The Aam Admi Party (AAP) members were beaten up by Congress party workers on Monday night in Amethi - the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, says a Hindustan Times report.

Reportedly, the incident happened at the venue of a public debate organised by a TV channel at Ramila Maidan on Monday evening. The Congress workers asked the AAP members to remove their party cap before taking the dias. The AAP leaders refuted and this triggered the attack.

The young party had announced that it will field a candidate against the Congress leader in Amethi in upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Sources said that the AAP members were beaten up and chased from the spot. AAP spokesperson Harikesh Srivastava said his members went to the Ramlila ground on the invitation of TV channel. "The Congress leaders beat us up for no of fault of ours. We had told the organisers that AAP workers would sport the cap. The Congress workers tried to create fear among the AAP workers with muscle power," said Srivastava.

The Congress defended themselves and said that none of the AAP members at the event were from Amethi. The president of district Congress Committee Yogendra Mishra and former president Prem Narain Tiwari said that the AAP workers were brought from Lucknow and other districts to participate in the programme.

However, Station House Officer (SHO) Amethi, OP Singh said that he has not received any complaint from AAP leaders.
