Delhi protest: Protest is indefinite, says Kejriwal
New Delhi, Jan 21: The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal calls off protests.

The Delhi's ruling AAP's protest against the Central government continues on the second day Tuesday.On Monday, the first day of protest, the party had laid siege to the capital as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared he was an "anarchist" and vowed to continue protests till his government is given control over Delhi Police.

All Metro stations to North Block will remain shut, informed authorities.

8:08 pm: Metro stations reopened

After the announcement by Arvind Kejriwal to call off the Dharna, all the four metro stations were opened for public use.

The decision to end dharna came after the police department assured action against the two police officers and sent them on leave as of now.

7:30 pm: Arvind Kejriwal to end protest

Delhi Chief Minister arvind Kejriwal will announce the official ending of the protest but it is now confirmed that protest has been called off.

Malviya Nagar SHO and PCR incharge of Paharganj proceed for leave.

Kejriwal says that this is the first time in India that a chief minister came down to streets with his cabinet, demanding action against police.

3:38 pm: Somnath Bharti should be suspended

Captain Gopinath, a recent entrant into politics and an AAP member, said that chief minister & his cabinet must govern from the office while the political party can continue to protest. He added that Law minister Somnath Bharti should also be suspended along with the police officials.

Activist Santhosh Hegde also slammed AAP's agitation and said Arvind Kejriwal's behavious isn't befitting a chief minister. The real sufferers are people of Delhi, he said.

2:35 pm: Protest turns violent, a cop injured in scuffle

AAP protest in Delhi turned violent as AAP members pelted stones at police. A policemen was injured in the scuffle, sources said. Meanwhile, minister Manish Sisodia, addressing the protesters, insisted that this was a fight against sex and drug racket.

2:00pm: BJP stages counter-protest

BJP leader Vijay Goel and other 200 BJP protesters were detained in Delhi as they were approaching Rail Bhawan where Kejriwal-led protest is going on. Subsequently, BJP stepped up attack on AAP and demanded Kejriwal's resignation.

1:38pm: Somnath Bharti summoned by Commission for Women

Delhi Commission for Women summons Law Minister Somnath Bharti over complaint of misbehaviour with Ugandan women against him.

1:21pm: Delhi police prepares to take action against protesters

Reportedly, police is preparing to take action against protesters.Cops stopped BJP workers near Akashwani Bhavan as they were approaching Rail Bhavan, where CM Arvind Kejriwal is leading an AAP protest.

1:00pm: Delhi police sends report on Kejriwal to home ministry.

According to sources, Delhi police has sent a report on Kejriwal to MHA. MHA plans to give Kejriwal time till January 24 to vacate protest venue.

Meanwhile, AAP members tried to break barricades at Raisina Hill again.

1:00pm: SP supports agitation

Samajwadi Party backs AAP's agitation. The party on Tuesday stated that AAP should go ahead with the agitation if it is for the betterment of people. 

12:15pm: Meeting between Delhi police commissioner and Home minister ends

The meeting between Delhi police commissioner and Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde ended and reportedly, the ministry o home affairs will stand by its decision to not to suspend three cops. 

Meanwhile AAP agitation intensified as more demostrators joined the Dharna. Kejriwal broke the police barricades. He said he will derail the republic day parade.

11:52 am: Manish Tewari slams AAP agitation

Slamming AAP's Dharna, Union minister Manish Tewari said that people want governance, not anarchy. In a republic, people want governance, not anarchists, he said. "How can Kejriwal order the delhi police what they should do?", he asked. "Is it only the responsibility of the Central govt to ensure smooth Republic Day? Is it not the responsibility of the chief minister who has taken the oath of the Constitution", Tewari asked.

11:37: SC allows to hear plea against Dharna

Supreme Court agrees to hear PIL filed against the agitation by Delhi Chief Minister. SC said that the position of CM is a constitutional position and it's mandatory to inform the governor or L-G before holding such a protest. The PIL states that the agitation by Delhi Chief Minister is in violation of the established law.

11:30am: Kejriwal attacks media

"Some channels playing at the behest of Congress and BJP", said Arvind Kejriwal. 

Meanwhile, an unexpected spell of rain played spoilsport at the Dharna for a while.

10:00 am: BJP attacks Kejriwal

AAP has demeaned Republic Day with Kejriwal's comments, said BJP leaders on Tuesday. "We condemn how Kejriwal is demeaning Republic Day celebrations", they said.

Kejriwal hits out at Shinde

Shinde has inconvenienced India by not cooperation with us, said Kejriwal. This unconventional politics will be a new league of polics in India, he said.

9:10 am: Crowd swells at protest venue

Despite police barricading, people have managed to reach the protest site. Their slogan is "Shinde hosh mein aao, Arvind tum sangharsh karo desh tumhare saath hai... Desh ka PM kaisa ho, Arvind jaisa ho... Takht badal do taaj badal do beimano ka raaj badal do."

8:55am: Will fill Rajpath with lakhs of people

Kejriwal warns Centre that if by January 26, his demands are not met, then we will 'fill Rajpath with lakhs of people'. He opined that Shinde should not keep the Metro closed. "Who is Shinde to decide where we will protest, I am the CM of Delhi", asked Kejriwal. 

He took on the Delhi police by saying, Sex and drug rackets don't run without paying bribes. "We will ask for raids", he said.

Many roads in Delhi have been closed by the police due to the protest. "Due to encompass by AAP workers, Rajender Parsad road, Rafi Marg, Raisina Road & Red Cross road has been closed", said a tweet by Delhi police. Another tweet by them said, "Ashoka road & Baba Kharak Singh marg will remain heavy. Please avoid these roads. Inconvenience is regretted".

8:30am: Kejriwal blames police, Centre

Kejriwal told Times Now that the police, to make people leave Dharna, refused to let a mobile toilet remain in the protest venue. "We arranged for a mobile toilet but the police refused to park it in a place from where it will be accessible to our supporters. They kept it on the other side of the barricade. My minister had to go fight with them to get the toilet here," he said.

"There is barricading all around. Is this how far Mr Shinde and the Home Ministry have fallen? Do they want to wage war with the Delhi government? I urge the people to come here in large numbers," he added.

7:40 am: Arvind Kejriwal tries to open the barricades

Kejriwal tries to gather protesters on his side of the barricade and tries to open barricades at the Rail Bhawan forcefully. He is now sitting at Raisina Road. "How can Shinde (Sushilkumar Shinde) sleep peacefully when women in Delhi feel unsafe?", he asked. AAP leader Yogendra Yadav justified AAP's street governance and said the party will continue protests until the union government yield.He also questioned the BJP's and Congress' politics

He had spent the night sleeping on a pavement outside the Rail Bhawan as he continued his dharna against the Delhi Police. He has vowed to continue the protests 'indefinitely' until his demands are met.
