UP: 9 killed in Muzaffarnagar clashes
Muzaffaragar (Uttar Pradesh), Sept 8: At least 10 person, including a local TV channel reporter, were killed and many other injured in the fresh communal violence between members of two communities in Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, after which indefinite curfew was imposed and the army deployed to help and maintain law an order.

Trouble first broke out on August 27 after a molestation incident in Kawal village of Muzaffarnagar. The man accused of the crime was stabbed to death, prompting his community to lynch two members of the other community.

Rajesh Verma, a journalist with IBN7 was shot dead and also the photographer hired by police, Israr, beaten to death.

Army personnel have been deployed in the riot-hit areas of the district

Late on Saturday night, a Home Department spokesman said in Lucknow that army personnel have been deployed in the riot-hit areas of the district to help civil authorities maintain law and order.

Curfew has been imposed in worst affected areas. Appealing for calm and warning against rumour-mongering, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said, "Whoever has done this will not go scot free."

He announced assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
