The operatives according to the police used a rope made out of bed sheets. They scaled the wall of the jail at around 4 AM on Monday before escaping. Superintendent of Police, Bhopal, Arvind Saxena who is leading the investigations informed that the operatives killed the security guard by slitting his throat with a steel plate and a glass. The operatives are said to have overpowered the guard before killing him.

A massive man hunt has been launched to track and arrest the operatives. It appears to be a planned operation, officials say. A high alert has been issued in the entire state and search operations are on at bus stands and railway stations. As a fall out of this incident, the Madhya Pradesh government has placed under suspension five jail officials pending inquiry.

This is the second time that such an incident is being reported from the state of Madhya Pradesh. The last time, 7 operatives of the SIMI had fled from the Khandwa jail in October 2013. These operatives went on to carry out several blasts and robberies. While three were killed in an encounter, the rest were arrested a few months back from Odisha.
