Islamabad, Jan 9: At least eight militants were killed today in a fierce gun battle with Pakistani army after terrorists attacked a security check-post in the restive North Waziristan.
The militants attacked the check-post in Datta Khel area in the tribal region after which the soldiers fired in retaliation, killing eight rebels, officials said.
Pakistan has launched a military operation in the area and so far more than 1,500 militants have been killed. In another incident, a paramilitary soldier was killed and four others injured when militants fired four rockets on a Mosque during Friday prayers in Kalaya town of Orakzai tribal region. Orakzai was one of key haunts of Taliban but the security forces have cleared its major areas.
However, still the rebels operate in some hilly areas and sometimes target the security forces.
