4 undertrials escape from Kalburgi central jail

New Delhi, Mar 23: Four undertrials have escaped from the Kalburgi jail in Karnataka which has caused a major embarrassment to the prison authorities. The undertrials managed to escape from the jail at around 1 AM today and the security at the jail found out about the same only at 5 AM today.

The undertrials who escaped from the jail have been identified as Shivkumar, Sunil Kumar, Tajuddin and Laxman. The preliminary investigations show that these four persons had plotted their escape over a period of time.

They are said to have drilled the barrack wall first before jumping off the compound wall and then making their escape.

While an inquiry will be constituted to find about this lapse in security, a massive manhunt has also been launched to nab the undertrials.

It is still unclear as to what cases they were facing. We have only identified them as of now, the police say. The priority now is to nab these persons and take them back to jail, the police also pointed out.
