3 out of 10 Indians poor: Rangarajan
New Delhi, July 7: Call it ironical, but the Rangarajan Committee has nullified all other committees, suggesting that just one-third of the population of India are under poverty line, raising the poverty limit to Rs 47 in cities. This implies that the people below this limit are poor.

According to the Rangarajan Panel, 3 out of 10 people are poor.

he findings of the Rangarajan panel report on poverty estimates have been declared and it report states that three out of 10 people in India are poor.
On the contrary the Tendulkar committee report had fixed the poverty line at Rs 33 per day for urban areas.

For rural areas, the Rangarajan report states that those spending less than Rs 32 per day as poor. However, the Tendulkar committee had pegged the poverty line at Rs 27 a day for rural India.

The Rangarajan report claims that the number of poor in India stood at 36.3 crore in 2011-12.

Branding the report ridiculous, many leaders in the Congress said that surviving with just Rs 47 is impossible.
