Sikh groups clash in Golden Temple
Amritsar, June 6: Two Sikh groups are said to have clashed with each other when a speaker was not allowed to speak. Akali Dal and SGPC attacked each other with swords and other traditional weapons in the Golden Temple where they had gathered in commemoration of the 1984 Golden Temple massacre.

While 6 people have been reported to be injured, some media persons were also assaulted and their cameras were broken.

In the mean time, Prem Singh Chandumajra of Shiromani Akali Dal spoke to media persons condemning the incident and calling it unfortunate. He also said that SGPC will take necessary action. However, he believes that there should not be any foreign intervention in the probe and that the government should solve it.

Incidentally, top SGPC functionaries, including its president Avtar Singh Makkar, and Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh were present inside the complex when the incident took place.

Latest reports suggest that 16 people have been detained and 7, including a child, have been injured. Sources say that no uniformed police were at sight.
