Guwahati, Apr 2: In the Assam assembly elections there are 189 candidates who are in the age group of 51 and 80 years. One candidate has declared that he is older than 80 while 5 have not declared their age details says this report by the Association for Democratic Reforms.
344 (64%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 189 (35%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years.
While 1 candidate has disclosed to be older than 80 years of age, 5 candidates have not disclosed their age details. Gender details of candidates: 43 (8%) female candidates are contesting in First Phase of the Assam assembly election this year.
There are 25 candidates in Assam who have declared that they have serious criminal cases pending against them. 30 out of the 539 candidates contesting the assembly elections have declared pending criminal cases against them.
Out of the 30 candidates, 25 have declared that they have serious criminal cases pending against their name. The cases include murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women etc.
Red Alert Constituencies- 3 constituencies namely Karimganj North, Sonai and Hailakandi in First Phase of Assam assembly elections have 3 or more candidates with declared criminal cases.
