1.24 km river ropeway planned to boost tourism in Goa

Panaji, Aug 8: A 1.24 km long ropeway, linking Panaji to the picturesque Reis Magos village and home to one of the most popular Portuguese-era fort, is being planned over Mandovi river, Goa Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said on Monday.

"The length of the stretch (one-way) between Panaji to Reis Magos is 1,240 metres. The ropeway would be monocable detachable gondala system with installed capacity of 800 persons per hour," Parulekar told the legislative assembly on Monday.

Parulekar said the technology partner for the unique ropeway project is M/s Doppelmayr Gravanta, an Austria-Swiss group, which is a "world leader in installing ropeway projects and are known for their reliability, safety and high technical standards".

Parulekar also said the Jammu and Kashmir-based Menus Adventures Pvt. Ltd. had been selected as the bidder for the Public Private Partnership project, whose cost is estimated around Rs 157 crore.

"The liability of the government will be limited to facilitating in any necessary clearances and approving the design/construction details, as submitted by the private operator. Government will not invest any financial amount in the project," he said.
