Bengaluru, Feb 5: The education department of Karnataka has listed over 1200 schools as unauthorised after a survey. Interestingly, some of these schools have been running for over 100 years.

In fact, a number of well-known schools have also been named, which include The Cathedral School, which has been running for 140 years, and the Sophia's school, running for 150 years. Baldwin High school for boys and girls are among 1200 other schools which have been named.

Commissioner for Public Instruction, Mohd Mohsin said,"Some of them took 1st to 5th permission but are running 1st to 10th. It is a clear-cut violation. Well known schools are also doing the same business. Thus, we have booked 2/3 criminal cases against the well known schools also."

Top school management are surprised that questions are being raised after decades of functioning. Isabella Simon, Principal, Cathedral school for instance said,"I think they have a real reason for going ahead and trying to find out, but I don't think they have done enough recce-ing. They have neither come across our documents to verify whether we are authorised or not."

The department now says that it will start categorizing how serious the violations are from next week.
