Doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital referred her to the urology department from the general surgery department, where she was examined properly. V. Selvaraj, professor of Urology said,"This is a congenital ureter anomaly - an ectopic ureter and is very rare."

Counselling her parents regarding the congenital disease, Selvaraj said,"We operated on her, and divided the abnormal ureter. One end of it was connected to the upper portion of the regular ureter. The other end was tied up. This way, urine draining into the abnormal ureter will go into the regular one and drain normally into the bladder."

He further added that the abnormal ureter could not be separated as that could hinder the functioning of the kidney. The girl was discharged after 10 days and is back to school.
