Muharram procession: Fearing communal tension, Trilokpuri, Bawana under hawk-eyed vigil
To ensure peace in Trilokpuri as well as Bawana, the police forces have been deployed in both the regions of National Capital.
Two days after the clashes in Trilokpuri, Delhi Police had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits any gathering or movement of a group of people.
In Bawana, a mahapanchayat on Sunday decided to change the route of Taziya, the Muharram Procession, as the some locals objected to it.
After the decision of the mahapanchayat, police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain harmony.
In the mahapanchayat, with the consent of both the Hindu and Muslim communities, an alternate route was chalked out to carry out the procession and was decided the Muharram procession will not be taken out in the Jat-dominated areas.
Muharram is observed by Shia Muslims to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad in the battle of Karbala.
As per reports, nearly 1,000 policemen have been deployed in the area to prevent any violence in the region.
Communal tensions have been brewing up in Bawana since October when on the occasion of Bakra Eid some Hindus had alleged that Muslims were stealing their cattle for sacrifice.
Delhi Traffic police also advised Delhiites to take alternate routes as they may have to witness traffic snarls due to these processions and heavy deployment of police in different areas.
