Church attacks: Not a single case of religious hate crime, says Delhi Police report

New Delhi, May 1: Blowing the lid of those various claims made by the so-called liberals terming the Church attacks as incidents of religious violence, a detailed probe by the Delhi police clearly states none of the incidents are related to religious intolerance.

In a detailed report submitted to the Home Ministry, the Delhi police says that all the incidents of Church attacks that have been reported in the recent past were either related to robbery, a short circuit, and stone pelting due to petty clashed.

Faulty wiring caused the fire

When the Dilshad Garden Church was gutted in fire, there was a claim that the incident was a result of religious hatred towards the Christians. [Protest in Delhi against 'attacks' on churches]

However, the Delhi police in its report which has been submitted to the Home Ministry says that the wiring in the Church was faulty.

"There was no attempt made by anyone to trigger off a religious hate crime and neither was it the result of polarization on religious lines. It was a clear cut case of short circuit which was blown out of proportion by a section of people," the report also states. [Attacks on churches: Rajnath Singh promises security, impartial probe]

Further, the report also speaks about the other incidents in Churches. It says that it has dealt with 6 cases in which it was alleged that the Churches were vandalized due to religious intolerance.

The investigations clearly show that two incidents due to short circuit, two were incidents of stone pelting due to individual clashes and two others were theft related incidents. [Should not be any attack on religious places: Delhi High Court]

The nun rape case

In the rape case at West Bengal too it had been alleged that it was a result of hate crime. [Nun gangrape case: Breakthrough as 4 Bangladeshis arrested]

While protests continued, the West Bengal CID found that it was an incident of theft. Several persons had entered into the Church premises in a bid to commit a robbery.

The nun stood in the way of the robbery as a result of which she had been physically assaulted, the CID had found.

Further, it was also established that a gang from Bangladesh had committed this act not only to commit robbery, but also to embarrass the establishment and to show how intolerant people were towards Christianity

Protection for Churches

In the Delhi police report it is stated that CCTV cameras have been installed in 161 out of the 240 Churches in Delhi. There is a regular patrol by the Station House Officer to all these Churches. [Church vandalised in West Delhi's Vikaspuri]

Further, police vehicles are stationed outside Churches and in addition to this, nodal officers to attend issues pertaining to Church security related issues have also been appointed.

The same has been in the case of Christian run educational institutions as well.
