Punjab will join the poll fray in the Assembly elections 2012 scheduled to be held on Jan 30. The result of the same will be announced on Mar 6. A state that has always voted anti-incumbency in the polls, this time around the polls will be crucial for the alliance of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party under Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The opposition led by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will battle it out under the Indian National Congress. The new player in the election scene is the front Sanjha Morcha which comprises of the newly formed People's Party of Punjab (PPP) led by former finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal. The Sanjha Morcha comprises of the PPP, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India - Marxist and the Akali Dal (Longowal).
