Rajnath Singh meets BJP leaders from NE over LS polls

Guwahati, Sept 19: BJP president Rajnath Singh has asked his party workers in the northeast to improve the organisation in that part of the country to back the party's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, so that a major benefit can be reaped in the next Lok Sabha polls. Singh arrived here on Wednesday for a two-day tour to oversee the poll preparations, said a news report.

Northeast sends 25 members to the Lower House of the Parliament and the BJP is reportedly eying 15-20 of them.

Singh met BJP representatives from states like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura during the day and asked them to raise people's issues to connect better with the electorate. He said the BJP has always focussed on the northeast and will continue to raise its issues. He also mentioned that the previous NDA government had undertaken various development work in the region.

Rajnath Singh meet representatives from each state separately

The BJP chief also spoke to the party leadership of each state from the region and advised them ways to improve the party's poll preparation. He particularly asked them to focus on the anti-incumbency factor and the various anti-people policies that the government of the day has undertaken.

Singh was scheduled to meet the Assam party leadership on Thursday. The party has the best chances to do well in Assam, which also sends the most number of MPs from this part (14). The BJP won 11 out of 31 seats in the Guwahati civic polls in June this year.
