EC officials to visit Assam today to oversee LS poll preparation

Guwahati, March 11: Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath along with election commissioners HS Brahma and Nasim Zaidi will arrive here on Tuesday evening to take stock of the preparations for the Lok Sabha election in Assam. The north-eastern state, which has 14 seats, will go to the polls on April 7, 9 and 12.

On Wednesday, the poll officials will meet political leaders, poll and government officials and media people throughout the day. They will return to New Delhi in the evening.

On Monday, Assam chief secretary Jitesh Khosla presided over a meeting with top police and army officials to discuss the security arrangements for the upcoming general polls.

He said each of the 340 plus police stations in the state would be made a zone and under each of them, there will be six to 10 sectors, depending on the area and the population under the said police station.

The state's chief electoral officer Vijayendra met poll officials on the eve of the top election officials' visit.
