Tiny Union Territory Puducherry is witnessing lot of political activities as assembly election near. The UT is to go to polls on the 16th of May.
AIADMK is confident of putting up a good show this time in Puducherry. To win back its old stronghold AIADMK is fielding former MLAs in all four of Karaikal enclave.
Independent MLA joins AIADMK:
In a move that can be said as advantage for AIADMK an independent MLA Mr. Sivakumar has joined the party. He represents Neravi constituency in Karaikal. He has represented this same constituency as a DMK candidate three times and had won the seat in 2011 as an independent.
Mr. Sivakumar joined AIADMK in the presence of party General Secretary J Jayalalithaa. He had earlier supported N Rangasamy but after meeting Jayalalithaa last year it was speculated that he would join AIADMK.
Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation former head Vaiyapuri Manikandan (AINRC), DMK's G Sundaravadivelu and its labour wing secretary Franklin Francois, former INTUC chief VC Ezhumalai and several others joined AIADMK along with Mr. Sivakumar.
India TV-CVoter opinion poll:
As per the India TV-CVoter opinion poll Congress and DMK alliance is projected to win 17 of 30 seats. The ruling AINRC will just win seven seats. AIADMK is projected to win just one seat and five as per the poll will be won by others.
As per the poll BJP will get 8.7 percent votes but will not be able to win any seat. Congress and DMK alliance is projected to get 32.8 percent votes. AIADMK's projected vote share is 11.8 percent. While ruling AINRC will get 24.8 percent votes.
AIADMK to go solo in Puducherry:
Giving a complete break to alliance with any political party for Puducherry Assembly Election, AIADMK has decided to contest AIADMK election on its own. It has decided to field 30 candidates for the UT.
By finalising 30 candidates for the UT it has become the first part to name all its candidates for the UT.
Former Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP P Kannan will contest from Raj Bhavan constituency. He recently joined AIADMK. All five sitting MLAs of AIADMK will contest election from their respective constituencies.
For AIADMK M Mahadevi will be the only woman contestant. She will contest from Mannadipet which is a rural constituency.
