Migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar always remain on the radar of the politicians. They always find some reasons to target them. Right from former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to former Home Minister P. Chidambaram everyone has blamed the migrants for all the big problems in Delhi. Though people well knows the real reason for these blame game politics, not even a single politicians raised this point that how the issue must be solved.
It's bitter truth that number of migrants influx especially from
UP and Bihar have increased recently in big cities. In search of
jobs and higher education they migrate to big cities like Delhi and
Mumbai which are the hub of multinational companies. According to a
Times of India reports, largest share of migrants come to Delhi is
from UP which is about 47 per cent. The number of Bihari migrants
has also shot up from 14% in 2001 to nearly 31% in 2013.
Rather than bantering, these people's representatives should focus how the issue can be solved. If the same people (migrants) will get employment opportunity or scope of higher education in their own state then they will not move to bigger cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Both Centre and State Government must make a robust plan in this direction so that this burning problem gets solved.
Here is the timeline of those politicians who have bantered about the issue.
Sheila Dikshit (2012)
Former Delhi Chief Minister in 2012 also had blamed migrants for rising crimes in the capital. She said, "The reasons that we understand, it is the huge migratory populations and very porous borders. You can come into Delhi, commit a crime and just run back again; I suppose it is very difficult also to check."
P Chidambaram (2010)
In December, 2010, former Home Minister P Chidambaram had blamed migrants. He said, "Crime takes place because Delhi attracts a large number of migrants. There are a large number of unauthorised colonies. And these migrants who settle in city's north-west colonies carry a kind of behaviour which is unacceptable in any modern city. So crimes do take place".
Raj Thackeray (2013)
Blaming Bihari migrants for rape in Delhi, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said, "All are talking about the Delhi gang-rape, but no one is asking who did this. Nobody's asking from where these men came. I have been slapped with so many cases, but nobody is saying the fact that all these rapists are from Bihar".
Uddhav Thackeray (2010)
The Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray even blamed migrants for rising number of Malaria cases in Mumbai. He said, "The migrant labourers are bringing malaria with them to Mumbai. There is need to have a check on these migrants. The influx of migrants continues, but the BMC is blamed for the spread of the malaria. First, stop the influx, and then blame the BMC"
Vijay Goel (2014)
While discussing Delhi Budget the BJP leader Vijay Goel
on Friday said, "Every day more migrants come to Delhi. Most of
them are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They come here because they
don't have employment opportunities in their states".
He further stated, "These migrants settle in slums, which later become unauthorised colonies. If we have to solve the problems of Delhi, we need to stop this inflow of migrants".
