Patna, May 19: Left red-faced after poll defeat, Bihar Chief Minister submitted his resignation, just a day after the poll results. However, the decision by JD(U) leader was postponed till today as the party workers unanimously echoed that the state would not progress without him.

"Haven't accepted Nitish's resignation. Without him, the state won't progress," JD(U) leader Sanjay Singh said soon after the party meet at Nitish Kumar's residence. Meanwhile, Nitish has sought for a day's time to rethink his decision. As per reports, JD(U) MLAs have refused to accept no one else at the top.

Meanwhile, JD(U) Chief Sharad Yadav said that Nitish Kumar's decision to resign was final and the party stood by his decision. New leader will be elected soon, he said.

A meeting will be conducted tomorrow again to take a final decision over the issue. JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said, "We want Nitish Kumar to continue as the CM, he has worked in Bihar," JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said.

Moreover, protests were staged by JD(U) party workers, accusing Sharad Yadav for being the reason behind Kumar's resignation.

Meanwhile, political parties have strongly criticized Nitish for shirking his role as the leader of the party. Some have even gone to the extent of calling the entire issue a 'drama'.
