Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tried to gain political mileage by linking journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik, facing uproar over meeting 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saaed in Lahore, with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). But, the journalist gave fresh twist to this ongoing controversy by calling the Congress a friend and denied having links with the RSS.

What Rahul said?

"The man is an RSS man that is a known fact. The question is did the Indian embassy facilitate the gentleman (Vaidik) or not. We are curious to find out if Indian embassy has facilitated this event," Rahul told reporters in New Delhi.

Vaidik's defence:

Denying Congress's claims of having any relation with the RSS, Vaidik wondered how Congress, with whom he worked so close, stooped so low and did this to him. Slamming the Congress the freelance journalist said it is making a fool of them and wondered how the party ruled the nation for last 10 years.

"I am known as a critic of the Congress party in this country. Those who are opposing me from Congress are like younger brothers to me. Can't believe the nation was in their hands for the last ten years. Rahul Gandhi is such a big minister and I am nothing in front of him. Why to file a defamation case? These Congress ministers who are now accusing me, have hurt me. I have known Congress people more than BJP Government people," Vaidik told ANI.

As per Vaidik, his relationship with the Congress is very old

As per Vaidik, his relationship with the Congress is very old and in an interview to private news channel the journalist even admitted that he was very close to former Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao and people used to call him deputy PM then.

RSS asks Rahul to gets facts checked:

Reacting strongly to Rahul's statement, RSS leader MG Vaidya criticised Congress vice-president for linking Vaidik with the RSS and asked the Amethi MP to get his facts checked.

"Rahul Gandhi should have correct information. But even if Ved Prakash Vaidik is from RSS, so what," said Vaidya.

Did Rahul attempted to gain political mileage?

Going with the chain of events, it seems Rahul has intentionally concocted this theory to defame the BJP and gain political mileage for the Congress, which is facing a credibility crisis, ahead of assembly polls in Haryana, Maharastra and Jammu & Kashmir. Instead of making false claims the Congress vice-president should come out with proof to validate his point that the scribe was associated with the RSS.

The Gandhi scion should rather spend his energy in overshooting intra-fighting affairs in his party. Recently, a number of leaders right from AK Antony to Digvijay Singh had raised question marks over his leadership skills. He should concentrate over these issues instead maligning others and that too without a bit of proof against them.
