For the world he is a terrorist, but in Pakistan he is one of the most powerful persons to be alive. This is 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed who has gone on to expose the Pakistan Army openly by stating in an interview that his organization is backing them in waging jihad in Kashmir.
India has often stated that Saeed is the most strategic partner of Pakistan's ISI and army. Any move by Pakistan in Kashmir is done with the consultation of Hafiz Saeed and his recent statements are a clear indicator of that.
Why is Pakistan seeking support of a terror group?
Saeed may call himself as the chief of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa or the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The fact remains that both these organizations are banned by India, the US and also the UN. This ideally would mean that all three have termed it in clear terms that both the Lashkar and the JuD are terrorist outfits.
Despite the ban Saeed walks in the open, plans strategy with the ISI and the Pakistan army. Pakistan has always denied having any links with him, but his recent statements are sure going leave many of them blushing.
Saeed minced no words when he said that his organisation is backing the Pakistan Army wage jihad in the valley. If India cannot given them their right in Kashmir, then jihad is the only way. Jihad is a very unbecoming term at least in a democracy which Pakistan claims that it is.
Why Pakistan will bear with the shame:
Saeed's statements will clearly not be approved by the ISI or the army. But the fact is that they can do nothing about it. Pakistan wants to tell the world that it is a democracy, but at the same time wants to fan violence in India. It is not possible for a legitimate army to fan violence in India.
It is in such a scenario that the likes of Saeed come in handy. He fights the proxy war for Pakistan and in other words it could be termed as the Pakistan army waging a battle in terrorists' clothes. Waging a prozy war through the Lashkar only leads up to the international community thinking that these are terrorist strikes.
The finger is never pointed at the army of a democratic nation. This augurs extremely well for Pakistan to ensure that their democracy is intact, but the war goes on in India. It is because of these aspects that Pakistan can never let go of the likes of Hafiz Saeed.
Lakhvi is coming:
The Lashkar has the word power today, but looking at recent events they appear to be beaten down militarily. This is when the services of the just released Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi the other mastermind of the 26/11 attack comes into play.
He is an operations man and is capable of guiding a full fledged ground battle. He is after all known as the Iman of Jihadis in Pakistan. The other title is chacha as the younger Jihadis fondly refer to him as. Lakhvi who is intentionally lying low will play a major part in strategizing the operations in Kashmir.
The ISI will ensure that he stays low for sometime. But as per the reports of the Indian Intelligence Bureau he works behind the scenes and is guiding the younger jihadis wage their battle in Kashmir.
No love lost between Masarat and Saeed:
Saeed also made statements relating to Masarat Alam. The man who was released from detention recently is back in jail for another seven days after he had raised a Pakistan flag. There are arguments about him in Kashmir but going by Saeed's words, he is held in high esteem in Pakistan.
Saeed had questioned the way in which the Indian police had arrested Alam. He also said that Alam had hoisted a Pakistan flag in Kashmir and not in India. Intelligence Bureau officials point out that Alam is a dangerous operative. He is the one who will replace Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the order of detention in which it was stated that Alam has anti India in his blood only shows the nature of this man, the IB official also says.
