New Delhi, March 19: Lok Sabha election 2014 are scheduled to start from April 7 till May 12 in nine phases.

The political parties are announcing their candidates' lists. So, before you go to vote for your next leader in your constituency, it is important to know the background of the candidate, to ensure that your vote goes for a right person.

Here, we will make you aware about some candidates who have jumped into poll fray, albeit, with their criminal backgrounds:

Murder accused in Congress list

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is Congress's candidate from Behrampur, Odisha. He is booked in a murder case and is a present MP.

Murder accused in BJP list

Sarbananda Sonowal is BJP's candidate from Lakhimpur, Assam. A case of murder has been registered against him.

'Attempt to murder' accused in Congress list

Abdul Mannan Hossain from Murshidabad, Ratna Singh from Pratapgarh and Vinay Kumar Pandey from Shravasti- all three candidates are contesting on Congress ticket and are facing charges of "attempt to murder".

Abductors in both Congress, BJP list

BJP MP Gopinath Munde is contesting from Beed, on whom kidnapping case is registered.
Congress's Abdul Mannan Hossain from Murshidabad is also booked in an abduction case.

Violation of Model Code of Conduct

Chaudhary Bijendra Singh, Congress candidate from Aligarh and Nana Patole, BJP candidate from Gondia are accused in cash-for-votes case.

Naveen Jindal, richest candidate

Naveen Jindal, Congress candidate from Kurukshetra constituency in Haryana is reported to be the most richest candidate , with property worth Rs 131.07 crore. Congress MP from Pratapgarh, Ratna Singh owns property worth Rs 67.82 crore while another Congress candidate from Rampur, Muhammad Kazim Ali Khan alias Naved Miyan has property worth Rs 56.89 crore.

Billionaire candidates

BJP's 86 candidates out of 126 candidates (68%) and Congress's 30 out of 62 candidates (48%) are said to be billionaires.
