Bhopal, Nov 25: As the BJP- ruled Madhya Pradesh went for the 230 assembly constituencies seats elections on Monday, there was a stiff battle of power between the popular Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan (BJP) and the erstwhile Gwalior royal family's scion- Jyotiraditya Scindia (Congress).

When biggies voted

MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is hoping to score a hat-trick contested from his native Budhni constituency as well as from Vidisha.

After casting his vote, Chouhan appealed people to use their "right to vote" and claimed that BJP will form government third time in state.

Congress party's unofficial chief ministerial candidate Jyotiraditya Scindia casted his vote in Gwalior.

70 per cent Voter turnout

As the clock struck 5 pm, about 70 percent total voter turnout was registered.

The highest voting is registered in Saunsar with 72 per cent. The Naxal-affected seats of Balaghat including Launji, Parswada and Baihar registered 65.74 %, 66% and 71.30% voting respectively till 3 pm.

What happened with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)

There were reports of EVMs developing technical glitches and malfunctioning from various poll booths.

In Morena district, four men were arrested as they fired shots in the air attempted to loot the EVM.

In Bhopal, a serious technical glitch was reported by the Congress candidate Aarif Masood. He claimed that while pressing the button for Congress on EVM, it was adding votes to the BJP.
Later, the EC officials admitted that there was a technical snag in that EVM.

Violence

MP poll results will be declared on Dec 8.

Although, no major untoward incident took place, but some violence was reported from Sumawali constituency in Morena and Lahar in Bhind.

At around 10 am, nearly two dozen people were reportedly injured in the poll-related violence in Bhind and Morena districts.

Poll boycott

In eight districts, there were reports of poll boycott. Voting was boycotted at 11 booths of the state including Hosangabad, Ratlam, Gwalior, Raisen (4), Morena, Umeria, Betul and Itarsi, for bad roads and other issues.

Firing

In Chambal region, there were reports of firing at more than a dozen polling booths.

In Sumawali constituency of Morena district, nine people including one woman were reportedly injured in firing incident. Due to firing, the polling officials had to even halt the voting process and had to locked them inside the booth at Aarhela village in Sumawali.

In Morena district, three persons were injured during firing at Naka ka Pura polling booth.

In Ater constituency, a BSP worker was injured in the firing that took place at Siyawali poll booth and also at Khurd poll booth.

In Katni district, a polling official died of cardiac arrest in early morning.

In 2008, MP had witnessed close to 70 per cent polling.
