As the Congress is presently going through the toughest phase it ever faced, it has reportedly brought Priyanka Gandhi on-board to save its sinking ship.

The year 2014 has been one of the most toughest years for the Congress in which it has lost the popular support among the masses.

With two back-to-back books by the party's former loyalists, the party's image faced a dent and in a damage control exercise, party chief Sonia Gandhi announced that she will pen down her own tell-all book to reveal the truth and to counter the allegations.

67-year-old Sonia said, "I will write my own book and then everyone will know the truth. The only way the truth will come out is if I write. I am serious about this."

Currently, the Congress rules in 8 states- Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram.

Here, lets take a look at some of the major happenings in the Congress party, that shook its very existence in 2014:

In the worst ever defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, it got only 44 seats out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, not even enough to form a strong opposition on its own.

Blame game and infighting

Then, began the blame game and reports of infighting among party members gradually emerged for the poor performance in the elections.

Sanjay Baru's book

The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh, a 2014 memoir, written by Singh's former media advisor Sanjay Baru shed the light on UPA's rule and revealed that the significant power was wielded by Sonia Gandhi while Singh was completely 'subservient'.

Natwar Singh's revelations

Post that, another autobiography, "One Life is not enough", a memoir by the party's former loyalist Natwar Singh exposed many bombshell revelations about the Congress Chaitperson Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and their son and party's vice president Rahul Gandhi, putting the already shattered party in further embarrassment as well as in raising many questions.

Priyanka Gandhi, the saver?

Will Priyanka Gandhi, who has strong resemablance to her grandmother and the former prime minister Indira Gandhi, be able to sail Congress through the toughest phase and save the sinking ship?
