Forty-one-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio finally registered his name in the record books of history on Monday when he bagged his first Oscar for The Revenant, the survival epic released in 2015.

The actor, who portrayed Hugh Glass, the18th-century frontiersman who overcame the wilderness after being abandoned for dead, won the prestigious award after missing out on four times.

With his better-late-than-never achievement, DiCaprio matched the feat of Sachin Tendulkar, the ace Indian cricketer who became a proud member of a World Cup-winning team only in 2011, when he played his sixth and final edition of the quadrennial tournament. The Master Blaster had come closer to winning the trophy in 2003 but India lost the final to Australia in that edition.

While for DiCaprio, it took almost two decades to finally win an Academy Award, Tendulkar also had to wait for 22 years to achieve something he always cherished.

The two individuals, also aged nearly same (Tendulkar a year older than DiCaprio), had started their careers around the same time in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
