The Mars Orbiter Mission or Mangalyaan was launched by the Indian Space Reserach Organisation (Isro) on November 5, 2013, and entered the Red Planet's orbit on September 24. India became the first nation to reach the Mars orbit in the first attempt. The total cost of the mission was Rs 450 crore (USD 73 million), making it the least expensive mission to Mars.
Lok Sabha election 2014
The BJP won 282 seats in the 16th Lok Sabha election held in April-May, making it the first party to get an absolute majority at the Centre in three decades. Narendra Modi became the 15th prime minister of India, succeeding Manmohan Singh.
Kailash Satyarthi wins Nobel in Peace
Kailash Satyarthi, 60, is a children's right activist who won the year's Nobel Peace Prize, along with Malala Yousafzai, a female education activist from Pakistan.
