CISF in Delhi metro fine, but more needs to be done

Bengaluru, March 11: Recent reports suggest that close to 4,800 CISF personnel have been deployed at all important stations in New Delhi. Police patrolling has increased and so have the CCTV cameras. But are these enough? asks common man.

Rape incidents close to the police station

Incidentally, the Uber rape case, where a finance professional was raped by the cab driver, took place at the Zakira bridge, a secluded area which had five police patrol cars. Also, the area was close to the Inderlok metro station, a major landmark in New Delhi.

The Nirbhaya Rape case is also alleged to be a consequence of police negligence. While a patrol car was just 7 minutes away from the spot, some allege that it ignored the fact that a private school bus was running late at night for no reason at all.

CISF- A guaranteed safety?

Interestingly and surprisingly, a lot of cases have emerged where police were involved in rape cases. For instance, a woman in her 30s was raped by the head constable in North Delhi's Rohini. In a separate case, two constables raped a 14-year old girl at the premises of a police station.

Now, the question is, how do women feel secured even in the presence of these security forces? Shouldn't there be supervision of their behaviour too?

While it can be admitted that this is just a step ahead toward a safe city, the authorities have to do more.
