Filing of nominations for 30 assembly elections in Puducherry has begun from today. The papers can be filed till 29th of April and only between 11 am to 3 pm.
The Election Commission has mentioned that only five people including the candidate who is filing nominations will be allowed to enter the returning officer's room.
The scrutiny of the nominations will be held on 30th April. Nominations can be withdrawn until 2nd May and the election is to be held on 16th of May.
Bombs thrown at police station:
Police of the Union Territory was on a search for two men who threw country-made bombs at Mudaliarpet area police station. Police has collected the CCTV footage from the private property around the police station.
Police suspects a disappointed group that had tried to filed a complaint but could not do so to be behind the attack.
Police is getting forensic experts involved as the UT is to go to polls on 16th of May.
CRPF companies in the UT by the first week of May:
District Election Officer of Puducherry informed media that 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel would arrive in Puducherry during the first week of May.
Also 3,800 officers will be on poll duty in the UT and the first round of training for the officers is already completed. There are around 9.32 lakh voters. The Election Commission has appointed three special observers for the UT. Also there will be 22 expenditure observers.
The Election Commission stated that they have received 536 complaints regarding election in the UT out of which they have found majority to be baseless and fictitious. The Commission said that 525 complaints have already been disposed off.
AIADMK's poll promises for Puducherry:
At a public meeting organised by AIADMK at Raj Bhavan constituency, Senji Seval Elumalai, Arni Lok Sabha member and AIADMK observer for Puducherry, said that it will be easy for AIADMK with 27 MPs to ensure that UT gets necessary funds from the Union Government.
Also he said that MPs of AIADMK can pursue matters related to UT in the Parliament if need be. He further added that AINRC has only one MP to raise his voice for Puducherry.
