Cyrus Mistry bonds with Tata staff on Founder's Day

Founder's Day Celebrations at Tata units are solemn and an occasion to recall the entrepreneurship spirit practiced by Tata group founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. On Sunday (March 3) Tata Sons new Chairman Cyrus Mistry observed the 174th Birth Anniversary of the founder by garlanding his statue at the Tata Works Main Gate in Jamshedpur, and shared the vision and values of the pioneering company.

"It is a time when we should reflect on values and entrepreneurial skills of our founder and reaffirm to those values which has helped in binding our group (Tata) together. These values have been the mainstay for the company to have prospered for over 100 years. It is for us to ensure that more and more people benefit from the company, as was the dream of JN Tata," said the new chairman.

This was his first function for the founders day as the chairman and Cyrus Mistry flagged off a grand founder's day pageantry near the Bistupur post office 'with 25 tableaus from associate companies, social organisations, Jamshedpur Armed Force (JAP) and Rapid Action Force (RAF). Approximatelty 2000 participants took part in the pageantry.

Ratan N Tata along with LIC chairman DK Mehrotra, Tata Power MD Anil Sardana, Tata Steel vice chairman B Muthuraman, MD (Indian Operations) HM Nerurkar, Tata Steel Europe MD KU Kohler were present on the occasion.

During his interaction with the Tata workers, Cyrus Mistry spoke of the need to have technically trained teachers and promised to act on this issue.

"We are in talk with a professional group to train 1,000 school teacher in various spheres at locations where Tata Group has establishments. We have set a target of training 20,000 teachers in the next 10 years," the Tata Sons chairman said.

Cyrus Mistry also commissioned the Coke Oven Battery and By-Product Plant at Tata Steel plant's Jamshedpur facility.

With a production capacity of 0.7 million tonnes per annum, it was the largest battery unit at the Jamshedpur works.
"It is befitting that the Coke Oven Battery is being inaugurated on the Founder's Day," Mistry said.

The day was also marked by the Founder's Day Sports Meet. The Founder's Day Sports involves participation from various Tata Group companies and others at Gopal Maidan.
