Chennai, April 11: DMK is taking the Amma way to win people's hearts. Few of the major announcements that were made by the DMK in its election manifesto included smartphone, 4G and cheap milk. However, what irked the opposition is the party's agenda of prohibiting alcohol.
The freebies, much like Amma, promised to give away smartphones to poor people and free 3G4G services along with free laptops and tablets to 16 lakh students in the state.
Despite anticipations of losing a third of the government's revenue, the DMK also introduced prohibition of alcohol. Other than this, it plans to introduce a crop and educational loan waiver, which according to the party will lead to a one-time outgo of Rs 11,000 crore.
Wooing all voting sections, including farmers and first time voters, the party promised to reduce the price of Aavin milk by Rs 7 and the creation of several government jobs.
For the fishermen, the party has promised to include them in the scheduled tribe list and call them as marine tribe. Each of the fishermen will also be provided with a house and Rs 5,000 during the fishing holiday and as monsoon relief.
Hvaing said that, the DMK also promises to continue some of the schemes introduced by the AIADMK like the Amma canteen. However, the name would be changed to "Arignar Anna Unavagams" if the DMK comes to power.
The DMK also plans to waive off all the student loans from the state, even though it means an outgo of Rs 9,000 crore. Other education loans will also be considered and a decision will be taken.
Waiver of farm loans, on the hand, will cost the exchequer Rs 2,000 crore.
