Chennai, May 12: The same elderly woman was seen in the ad campaigning of the rival AIADMK and DMK for the May 16 election, causing embarrasment for both the Dravidian parties eyeing the throne on May 19.
In the AIADMK ad, the old lady was see having food at a temple and complaining that her own children neglect her at home. It suggests that 'Amma' never lets down those who are neglected even by their nearest ones. [TN poll results: 1952-2011]
In the DMK ad, the same woman is seen saying that there must be an end to governance by those leaders who fail to gauge the pulse of the ordinary people. In this case, the DMK's rising sun symbol follows her plea.
The woman named GT Kasturi, popularly called Kasturi Paati (grandmother in Tamil), made the headlines after the bemused audience saw her chipping in for the arch-rivals.
Kasturi, who is an actor ans has acted in over 300 films over the last 25 years, told Tamil magazine Vikatan that she was not aware about acting in a DMK ad since the casting agent did not tell her so. She said she was under the impression that she featured only in the ruling party's ad.
Sixty-seven-year-old Kasturi said while the AIADMK paid her Rs 1,500 for its ad campaign, the DMK handed her Rs 500 less. She, however, claimed that she does not favour any particular party.
A similar incident was reported from Pakistan, though not related to polls
A similar instance was reported from Pakistan in the past when a woman in the audience that particpated in a woman's programme on television, said she was childless but her husband was supportive enough in times of depression. The same woman was seen on another instance on TV, saying she was happliy married with two children!
