Chennai, Feb 5: Alleging 'lack of leadership' and guidance in taking up people's issues, 15 district coordinators of the Tamil Nadu unit of AAP on Thursday decided to elect a new state leader and take the party forward without involving the high command in Delhi.

A coordination committee was formed by them here today at a meeting where it was decided that a state-level meeting will be held in Tiruchirappalli to elect the new leadership, P Gunasekaran, one of the 15 district coordinators, said.

"For the last one year, there has been no leadership in AAP's Tamil Nadu unit even as there has been no guidance in taking up people's issues," he told reporters after the meeting.

These had been taken up with AAP founder Arvind Kejriwal and senior leader Yogendra Yadav, but to no avail, he said.

Subsequently, many had started leaving the party, he said adding the high command was busy in focussing on Delhi alone, where it is now locked in a straight fight with BJP for the ensuing Assembly elections.

Gunasekaran said 'good policies' like fighting corruption should be taken to the people of Tamil Nadu and AAP wanted to be an alternative to Dravidian parties.

"Therefore, some of us who were initially part of setting up of the state unit have decided to work independently. We will not consult Delhi (high command) and will create a new state leadership,' Gunasekaran said.

The new party will be called AAP, Tamil Nadu and will be registered with Election Commission, he said. The AAP state unit was not immediately available for a response.
