Chennai, May 14: Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni on Saturday (May 14) said all arrangements were in place for the Assembly election to be held in the state on May 16 (Monday).
Saying the campaign for the polling would end at 6 pm on Saturday, Lakhoni added that the media should not publish any advertisement of election-related matter about parties or their candidates. [Jaya, Karunanidhi appeal to people to vote for their parties]
He also said the authorities have taken all measures, including those against rain predicted in some places of the state, particularly in the south, on the polling day.
A total of 5.82 crore voters would cast their ballots to decide fates of 3,776 candidates contesting in 234 Assembly constituencies of the state. Polling will take place between 7 am and 6 pm in around 66,000 booths.
Three-hundred and twenty of the contestants are women while 1,566 are Independents. The Election Commission has launched various awareness campaigns on election to ensure cent per cent polling.
The results will be declared on May 19, along with those in Kerala, Puducherry, West Bengal and Assam.
