Tamil Nadu polls 2016: Dissent in DMDK over alliance with PWF

Chennai, April 5: Ten senior office-holders of the DMDK, including many district secretaries, led by the party's prpaganda secretary VC Chandirakumar on Tuesday asked supremo Vijaykanth to change his decision to ally with the People's Welfare Front (PWF) for the May 16 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Chandirakumar said the decision to join hands with the PWF is "suicidal" for the DMDK and Captain, as Vijaykanth is popularly known, should change the decision. In a press conference which was called in a hurry, he said Vijaykanth would hopefully invite the dissenters for talks.

He said they did not walk out of the party and were hoping to see Vijaykanth take the "right decision".

The DMDK supremo had earlier decided to contest the May 16 election alone but later joined hands with the PWF which comprises Vaiko's MDMK, VCK and two Left parties.

Eight DMDK MLAs joined the ruling AIADMK in February along with one legislator from the PMK and PT each.
