Social media floods with fake posts about Jayalalithaa's 'daughter'

The post, which went viral over the weekend, claimed that a woman named Sree Harsha was Jayalalithaa's daughter born out of a wedlock in the 70s.

A fake viral post claiming that the late J Jayalalithaa had a daughter came under severe criticism in Tamil Nadu after popular playback singer Chinmayi Sripadaada took to Facebook to lash out at the post.

The post, which went viral over the weekend, claimed that a woman named Sree Harsha was Jayalalithaa's daughter born out of a wedlock in the 70s.

The post along with a photo of a woman was circulated on social media networks and messaging groups.

However, popular playback singer Chinmayi busted the fake post by identifying the woman in the picture as someone known to her. Chinmayi took to Facebook to lash out at those who had circulated the post without verifying the facts. She identified the woman in the post as a family member of a renowned Mridangam Vidwan V Balaji.

"This rumour has been propagated long enough for even Google image search to return with similar results. Like they say, repeat a lie long enough and it becomes 'truth'. Please stop sharing ridiculous 'news stories' created by a figment of the imagination of an unstable mind," she said in a post.

Many took to social media to out the fake post and also ask people to stop sharing it.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has also taken to its social media accounts to dispel rumours.
