Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi called on ailing Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai. "I wanted to personally wish him a speedy recovery. Happy to see that he is doing well. I said hello to him. Congress President also sends her regards", said Rahul Gandhi after meeting DR M Karunanidhi. He told the press quoting the doctors that 'M Karunanidhi will go home pretty soon'.

This is the second time in over a month that Rahul Gandhi has visited Chennai. He had previously flown down to call on late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa when she was being treated at Apollo Hospital.

After his meet with the DMK chief Rahul Gandhi is expected to make his way to Belagavi in Karnataka. The Congress vice president will take part in birth centenary year celebrations of Indira Gandhi organised by the party's Karnataka unit.

Rahul Gandhi had made a courtesy call on late Jayalalithaa when she was being treated at Apollo hospital in Chennai as well. He was, however, not allowed entry into her ward. He had to return after being appraised of the leader's health by doctors at Apollo Hospital. The doctors had maintained that Rahul Gandhi or any other visitors were not allowed to meet late Jayalalithaa in person to avoid risk of infection.
