Jayalalithaa in hospital: 2 arrested for spreading rumours online about CM's health

Chennai, Oct 11: Chennai city police swung into action and arrested two people for spreading rumours online about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's health on Monday.

The arrested were identified as Satish Kumar (26) and Madasamy (25). While Satish is an IT professional, Madasamy works for a private company.

The arrests were made based on the complaint filed by AIADMK IT wing secretary KR Ramachandran.

According to the police, both uploaded false information on social media about CM's health and created panic among Jayalalithaa's supporters.

"The technician manages a website which uploaded an audio said to be the voice of an employee of the Apollo Hospital about CM's health. The IT engineer posted false information on the Facebook about CM's health," said the police.

"The arrested were remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court in the city," added the police.

The accused were booked under the IPC Sections 153 (want only giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 505 (1) (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statements, rumour or reports) and 505 (1) (c) (d) (with intent to cause or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public) of the Indian Penal Code.

Ever since Jayalalithaa has been admitted to Apollo Hospital at Greams Road, Chennai, her health has been subjected to countless rumours, speculation and even fake pictures spread through social media. She is undergoing treatment at the hospital since September 22.

In order to put to rest all the rumours surrounding Jayalalithaa's health, AIADMK has issued an official statement.

The statement said all was well with Amma (as the CM is popularly known to her fans). The message was put on the party's official Twitter handle @AIADMKOfficial on Monday
