Will work for people of TN till my last breath: Jayalalithaa on poll victory

Chennai, May 19: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Thursday thanked her supporters and voters for propelling her party to victory in the Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference, Jayalalithaa said: "My party and I are indebted to people of Tamil Nadu for giving us this historic victory. AIADMK has been given a historical mandate by people of TN. I'd like to convey my heartiest wishes to my supporters."

I'll continue to strive for the betterment of this state till my last breath, she added. "I have no other interest in life except for working for people of Tamil Nadu. Will continue to work for people of Tamil Nadu and will strive for fulfilment of promises I have made in election manifesto," Jayalalithaa said.

Jayalalithaa, who was keeping a close eye on the results from her residence in Poes Garden, earlier said in a statement: "I convey my heartiest thanks to voters who have reaffirmed their faith on me and given me another chance."

Hitting out at DMK, she said: "False campaigning by DMK has been defeated. People of Tamil Nadu have rejected family politics carried out by our opponents."

Jayalalithaa also said that all the promises made in party manifesto will be fulfilled. "Will continuously strive towards making Tamil Nadu first in all spheres of development," she said.

Meanwhile, massive celebrations erupted outside her residence after early poll trends showed her comeback in the state.

Jayalalithaa is set to return as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for a second term. Jayalalithaa is the first leader in Tamil Nadu to win successive assembly elections- after her political mentor MGR.
