Cyclone alert issued in TN, Puducherry
Chennai, May 18: The Met Department on Wednesday, May 18 issued a cyclone alert for north Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next 48 hours.
This comes after heavy rainfall was reported from Chennai and Puducherry in the past 24 hours.
Rain to continue in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry
The Met department said that very heavy rainfall was expected in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu and advised all fishermen from venturing into the sea as the sea condition is expected to be rough for the next 48 hours.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal has moved to 90 km east of Chennai and 70 km of the coast.
According to latest reports, 4 NDRF teams have been deployed in Chennai to deal with emerging flood like situation due to incessant rains. The teams have reached with 24 boats to deal with flood like situation.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has forecast thunderstorm accompanied with squalls at isolated places in Telangana till 21 May.
