After Vaiko's MDMK, PMK too to join BJP alliance: Report
"BJP leaders and party well-wishers have been constantly in touch with Anbumani Ramadoss. He made up his mind to team up with the BJP after discussing the pros and cons. The official announcement is likely to be made shortly," a PMK leader told a newspaper.
PMK sources said that Anbumani Ramadoss met BJP's Muralidhar Rao and confirmed an alliance.
"BJP leaders, including its national secretary Muralidhar Rao and state president Pon Radhakrishnan, had met Anbumani Ramadoss twice in Chennai and urged him to align with their party. Though, Anbumani was inclined to tie up with them, he had been awaiting approval from his father Ramadoss. We now know the party has decided to align with us," a senior BJP leader said.
PMK sources said that Anbumani met BJP's Muralidhar Rao and confirmed alliance.
Because of the 'difference of opinion' between party founder S Ramadoss and his son Anbumani, there were some reservations over forming an alliance with the BJP.
Like Vaiko, PMK chief S Ramadoss had also welcomed Modi's PM candidature for the upcoming general elections. PMK has much influence over the Vanniyar community in the northern part of Tamil Nadu.
Last week, the BJP and MDMK officially announced their alliance for the Lok Sabha polls in an attempt to dethrone Congress from the Centre.
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko had said their alliance with BJP was a "winning combination and would add a new political dimension in the state".
Meanwhile, the BJP is also pinning hopes for an alliance with the actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth's DMDK.
