Chennai, Feb 11: Eighty-two-year-old Congress Leader Kumari Ananthan, who is in the middle of a padayatra from Chennai to Kanyakumari demanding complete prohibition of liquor in Tamil Nadu, fainted at Moondradaippu near Nanguneri on Tuesday, police said.
The veteran leader fainted soon after he began his padayatra from Panankulam in Tirunelveli district where he halted on Monday night. It was the 47th day of his padayatra.
He was rushed to a private hospital by the police and the doctors there said his heart condition was weak and he needs to take sufficient rest.
They said to have strongly advised the leader against resuming the yatra after he had regained consciousness.
Ananthan was admitted to the ICU but his condition is stable now, the doctors said.
Party supporters said they had advised him to take rest after complained of discomfort but he was determined to conclude his mission.
