According to TOI report, Sharma made the announcement during the release of manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections.
The manifesto said, "if voted to power, BJP will take steps for stricter implementation of the laws against cow slaughter, even as chairman of the Manifesto Committee Ganeshi Lal said cow slaughter will be equated with culpable homicide.
State BJP spokesman Veer Kumar Yadav also said the party was serious about checking cow slaughter.
"After coming to power, we can amend the law in the assembly and make cow slaughter a crime punishable, attracting the same law as murder. If needed, we would take consent of the Central government to amend the law", he said.
BJP's national spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was also present during the manifesto release.
The state will go to polls on October 15.
Haryana has a total of 90 Assembly seats and BJP is for the first time contesting polls alone. Its alliances with INLD and later with Haryana Janhit Congress have fallen apart.
In the Lok Sabha polls this year, Congress won only one of the 10 seats while BJP won seven out of the eight it contested. INLD won two seats.
