Sharma's recommendation on keeping the Muslims off the festival came during a meeting with Hindu Utsav Samiti in the state capital. It was also said that Muslims could enter the Garba venues only when accompanied by their female family members.
It was also suggested during the meeting that all Garba celebrations should begin with singing of Vande Mataram, the national song.
On the question of being accompanied by female family members, Sharma, an MLA from Huzur constituency in Bhopal, said it would ensure that they behave properly and not eye Hindu girls. He also said that the Hindus never disturb them when they offer namaz (their prayers), and so the Muslims shouldn't also try to enter the Garba festival.
