Bengaluru, Nov 12: A day after apologising for his controversial statement over renaming the Bengaluru International Airport after Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan, Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad received a death threat.
On Thursday, Nov 12 a tweet was posted threatening Karnad with dire consquences. The tweet read: "Girish Karnad will meet the same end like kalburgi if he enrages kannadigas by replacing in Kempe gouda (sic) with Tipu Sultan."
The tweet was posted on Twitter by a user named Intolerant Chandra. However, the tweet was later deleted.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Police is trying to trace the person. Karnad, on Wednesday, apologised for his statement and said: "I did not intend to hurt anyone. I apologise if I have hurt anyone's feelings, as I was only expressing my opinion about Tipu Sultan on his birth anniversary."
