School van collides with bus in Karnataka; 8 children die, 8 injured
Udupi, June 21: Eight children, including two girl were killed in a road accident at Trasi village under Gangolli police station limits in Kumdapur taluk of Udupi district of Karnataka on Tuesday (June 21) morning.
Eight other children were also injured.
Sixteen boys and girls, aged between seven and 13, were travelling to school in Trasi village in a Maruti Omni van when it collided with a Kundapur-bound private bus. The bus was coming from Bhatkal. The accident occurred when the schoolchildren's vehicle was just about reaching the school, according to eye-witnesses.
Eight of the children were killed instantly while six others are undergoing treatment in Kasturba Hospital at Manipal, Udupi.
The driver of the ill-fated van was undergoing treatment at the trauma centre of the same hospital.
