Malleshwaram blasts- Accused had sold explosives to bomber at Rs 2,000

Bengaluru, June 14: The arrest of Daniel Prakash in connection with the Malleshwaram blasts is a breakthrough for the Bengaluru police. Prakash a resident of Tiruvenalli was arrested by the Central Crime Branch police.

During the course of the investigation, it was found that Prakash had sold the gelatine sticks to his childhood friend, Syed Ali an accused in this case. [Malleshwaram blasts- Bengaluru police arrest prime suspect]

He told the police that he had sold the gelatine sticks as well other explosives for Rs 2,000. It is however unclear if Prakash knew what Syed's motive was.

The CCB police say that Daniel would steal the gelatine sticks and sell them to quarries. He had stolen the gelatine sticks which were placed outside Pudukodi in Tamil Nadu and sold it to Ali. The police say that the gelatine sticks had been stored to undertake a water project.

Background:

On April 17 2013, an explosion took place outside the BJP's office in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. 16 persons were injured in the blast. Investigations had shown that ammonium nitrate had been used in the explosives. It was also discovered a motor cycle stolen from Hyderabad had been used in the blast.

In October 2013, a chargesheet had been filed against several persons in connection with this case.

The police had named Basheer, Kichan Buhari, Sait Azgar Ali, Rehamathulla, Valayil Hakeem, Syed Suleman, Suleman, Zulfikar Ali, Mohammed Salim, Panna Ismail, Bilal Malik, Fakruddin, Pravai Basha and Ali Khan Kutti.

The police had suspected that the attack could have been the handiwork of the Al-Ummah which is based in Tamil Nadu.
