Hanumantharayappa assumes charge as Silk Board chairman
Bengaluru, Aug 8: The Central Silk Board today said K M Hanumantharayappa, sericulturist and a weaver, has assumed charge as its new Chairman for a period of three years.
As the 25th Chairman of the board, he succeeds N S Bissegowda. Hanumantharayappa is a senior political leader from BJP and hails from Doddaballapura, a traditional silk weaving cluster in Karnataka, a release said.
Having served as the Member to the Central Silk Board during 2000-2002, he is also the President of Karnataka State Nekarara Horata Samithi (weaver's association), and has also served as Chairman of Karnataka Silk Marketing Board (KSMB) of Karnataka government during 2010-2013, it added.
Hanumantharayappa, himself a sericulturist and a weaver, had been awarded with the 'Best Agriculturist Award' by the Government of Karnataka.
